I call this piece Aspiration because of the quality it carries of being out of and above the ordinary. At my very best, this is how I feel, looking forward with curious anticipation to most moments.
I set out to give a feeling of the sea in the background pattern of the “quilting” by making the colors darker below and lighter above. There is a jewel like quality to it partially as a result of my use of triangular patches in the “quilting” which also call to mind pyramids which, of course, were built with the greatest of aspirations.
Despite the flowing colors and abstract shapes, there is a very formal feeling to this piece that reminds me of an altarpiece.
